Project History and Schedule 1986: Raymond starts sending 7th and 8th grade students out-of-town for schooling to relieve overcrowding. 1989: As a result of Raymonds Comprehensive Plan a Middle School Study Committee is appointed to explore options for Raymond middle school students. 1990: A School Committee survey of the town clearly shows citizens are unhappy with tuitioning out of 7th and 8th graders due to such factors as busing time and distance to school. 1991: The Middle School Feasibility Study is completed. Funding for the formation of the Elementary School Building Committee is approved by Raymond voters at town meeting. 1993: The State approves the application for a K - 4 elementary school. 1994: Raymond is placed on the state funding priority list for concept approval in 1997. 1995: The Middle School Development Committee is appointed by the Raymond School Committee to oversee the conversion of the Jordan-Small School to a Middle School. The town approves by referendum vote the purchase of 47 acres of land across from the Jordan-Small School on the Webbs Mills Road (Route 85) . 1996: Residents vote in a non-binding vote at public hearing to continue with the plans for the new construction and renovations. 1997: The town approves $65,000 for initial architectural services at town meeting. The State Board of Education gives its unanimous endorsement for concept approval for State funding on September 10. 1997: The construction project went to a referendum vote on November 4 gaining town approval. 1999-2000: Construction of the new K - 4 school; ready for occupancy in the fall of 2000. 2000: The Middle School for grades 5 - 7 is established. Grades 5 - 8 will be in place in the fall of 2001. |
