HAZARDOUS WASTE PICK-UP DAY

The Residents of Raymond, Casco, Naples, Otisfield and Frye Island are invited to contact their municipal offices or association for details regarding the Hazardous Waste Pick-Up Day. Pre-registration is requested. Subsidies available from some participating towns on a first-come-first serve basis. Costs will range from $5 to $20 per 2 ½ - 10 gallons of hazardous waste. Commercial waste will not be accepted. Please plan to participate and help preserve our environment.

Seacoast Ocean Services Inc. of Portland will be operating the collection site in Raymond.

Households only. Not for commercial or industrial wastes! Items may be rejected if the following guidelines are not adhered to!

What is household hazardous waste?

Household hazardous waste is any product that is classified as toxic (poisonous), corrosive, flammable or reactive (explosive). Such products can be found in homes, garages, or workshops. When improperly disposed of, it can poison people and animals, and it can pollute homes and the natural environment. Many of these can be identified by reading labels. Look for the words: poison,corrosive, flammable, caution, danger, or warning.

Cost:

Will depend on quantity of waste delivered. Each town will provide subsidies on a first come first serve basis. Pre-registration is recommended. In previous years, costs have ranged between $10 and $20 per 5 gallons of waste. For more information please call your Town Office.

from the garage:
fuels/gasoline/kerosene
antifreeze
engine degreaser
brake fluid
motor oil
car wax, polishes
driveway sealer
roofing tar
swimming pool chemicals

from the yard:

insecticides & chemical fertilizer
weed killers
moth balls
flea control products

from the house:
rubber cement
fiberglass resins
photo chemicals
chemistry sets
furniture,floor,and metal polish
oven,drain,and toilet cleaner
rug and upholstery cleaner
lithium and nicad batteries

What not to bring??

tires
latex paint
non-household generated waste
radioactive waste
smoke detectors
biological waste
explosive/ammunition
automobile batteries
prescription medication/ syringes
compressed gas cylinders

How do I transport these material?

Bring materials in original containers; be sure they are securely closed.

Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper.
Never mix chemicals together!!!!

Never smoke or eat while handling or transporting hazardous materials. Leaking or broken containers must be contained. leave pets at home. Pack your car and drive directly to the site.
