LAKE REGION BULKY WASTE NEWS

Editor Mark D. Rutland Jan./Feb 1997 Facility Open T, TH, SAT & SUN 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

IMPORTANT TAKE NOTICE: As of January 1,1997 ALL! Casco and Naples residence will NOT be allowed into the facility without the new window permits which must match your vehicle registration number. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. If you are hauling for another person or have borrowed someone's vehicle you must get a day pass from your town office so that the proper town and or person can be identified on weight slips for town records.

TOTAL MATERIAL RECYCLED LAST YEAR: Last year residents recycled the following amounts of materials. METAL 7,925 lbs. - BUILDING MATERIALS 15,900 lbs. - ROUND WOOD 92,890 lbs. - OIL 9,068 lbs. (used for heat) - DEMO 218,277 lbs. - TIRES 1,342 lbs. - GLASS 1,600 lbs. - COMPOST 34,240 lbs. - MULCH 344,140 lbs. - OTHER 5,825. This equals a total of 768,447 lbs. of material which would have been buried or burned before. This just goes to show that another man's trash can truly be another mans treasure if you recycle your waste properly.

TIP FOR THE MONTH: When loading your vehicle presort like items to different section of your vehicle, this makes unloading easier by allowing you to go from one recycling area to another without having to dig through everything to avoid backtracking. By presorting you will save time and energy and eliminate congestion in the facility. If you don't have a list of how items are to be separated you can obtain one at the scale house window. This list will help you plan an effective method of loading your vehicle so that one stop at each area should be all you need to make to empty your vehicle.

FREE FOR THE TAKING: Planning a building project? Before you go out and buy lumber, windows, doors etc.,check out our constantly changing supply of usable building material. From greenhouses to ice shacks, we can save you money on materials. We may not have everything you need but we always have something you can use.

FACT OR FICTION: If I bring in residential material it is free of charge. This is both FACT and FICTION. Although the resident does not get charged for the items the residents town does. Residential usage is paid for through taxes.

Why do we have to separate painted and unpainted wood its all going to be burned anyway? This is FICTION. The FACT is unpainted wood gets ground into mulch and sold to consumers at a considerable savings, while painted, stained, pressure treated and varnished wood is hauled off site at a cost to everyone. The more we can separate the less we have to pay and that saves all of us money .

CASCO / NAPLES TRANSFER STATION: This facility is for residents of these towns only for the disposal of household garbage and household recyclables. Residents from Raymond and Otisfield should contact their town office for details on where to take their household waste and recyclables.

SHOP AND DROP: Need to furnish a new apartment or home? stop by the shop and drop and check out the reusable furniture, appliances, dishes, and remodeling items. The shop and drop is a way of recycling items from one home to another at an affordable price, usually pennies on the dollar of their worth. If you need good used household items or if you need to get rid of them ,stop by the shop and drop and we'll help someone en joy the items you no longer need

RECYCLING PROJECTS THAT WORK: Planning a flower or vegetable garden next year? Get a jump start on the short New England growing season by building cold frames to start your seedlings. Take home some of our recyclable windows, build a square frame, (pick up the lumber while your there its free) add some hinges (you quest it we have them too) and your all set. Attach the window to the frame on one side place it on the ground and now you have a cold frame. At night with the window closed or down seedlings are protected from cold and frost, during the day the window acts like a greenhouse to help seedlings get warm and grow. Also pick up some compost while you are there its great for starting plants and for adding nutrients to existing soil.

CURRENT COMMERCIAL RATES: The following rate apply to anyone who has a business that brings refuse to the bulky waste facility. Also commercial haulers are required to have commercial stickers on their vehicles. If you are a commercial hauler and you need to bring personal residential waste to the facility you must have a day pass for that day The rates are as follows: Brush ...$.025 per lb. / Metal ...N/C if brought in separately / Demolition ...$.05 per lb.

Any persons caught dumping mixed or contaminated loads where they don't belong will be charged $.20 per lb. for the entire amount of the load, not just the unseparated portion. This policy will be strictly enforced with no exception.

CASCO / NAPLES RESIDENTS: There is currently a limit of four tires per household per year, however if you have more than four you may dispose of them at a charge of $ 2.00 each for any over four.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: All residents bringing refrigerators to the facility regardless of town are required to remove the doors before bringing them in . All tires with rims will be charged a $5.00 fee to cover the cost of breaking them down to separate the tire and the heavy metal. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
