Raymond Recycling Committee

Mission

To promote a cost effective recycling waste reduction, and material reuse program which is feasible to manage and relatively convenient for all residents, both year-round and seasonal.

Goals

  1. To expand and maintain an increasing awareness for the necessity to recycle and compost for environmental as well as monetary reasons. This endeavor should result in a doubling of the current curbside recycling rate of household waste from 10% to 20%.
  2. To endeavor to increase the categories of recyclable materials for Raymond residents including but not limited to colored glass, other plastics, and other paper products.
  3. To provide incentives for the convenience of residents to recycle.

Strategies

  1. Awareness through education:
  1. Through Jordan-Small School and the Roadrunner. Articles and contests involving student, teacher, and parental participation. The latter in the near-term being most crucial.
  2. Local newspapers, especially during the summer.
  3. Educating residents that their efforts toward recycling will have an impact on taxes. Every ton recycled is a ton saved from trash disposal fees.
  1. Explore alternate recycling facilities which will accept more categories for recyclable materials, especially colored glass and colored plastic. Consult with other towns on this.
  2. Explore the possibility of locating several drop-off places that would be well advertised. The drop-off containers would be well marked with large recycling logos.
