Raymond's Veterans Memorial Monument
|

|
Dear Raymond Residents and Visitors, |
|||
|
You may know the Town of
Raymond is working hard to erect a memorial to honor all of Raymond's
veterans. Most towns across Maine and the country for that matter have such
monuments. Regardless of your feelings about the current situation in Iraq
and elsewhere, now is the time to remedy the situation and erect a suitable
monument in Raymond. The Selectmen have asked me to chair a Veterans
Memorial Committee with the purpose to plan for, develop and put in place a
Veterans Memorial Monument. We have been meeting for the past eight months.
The location has been picked and that is the Panther Run rest area at the
base of Route 85. That area has recently been given to the Town from the
State. We have several organizations now working on the project in addition
to our Veterans Memorial Committee to include the Hawthorne Garden Club, and
the Walk-N-Weed group. The Town also applied for and will receive help in
design and plant selection from the University of Maine Cooperative
Extension. Checks
should be made out to “Raymond Veterans Memorial Fund”. Along with the
attached Paver Order Form they can be sent to
the town office at 401 Webbs Mills Road, or call Howard
Stiles at 655-4193 and I will pick up. Many thanks. Remember Freedom isn’t
free. |

![]() If you are a veteran you should purchase a granite paver to memorialize your service. If you are a Raymond resident and have relatives, i.e., mother, father, uncles, brothers, or sisters who are veterans, you can memorialize them with a paver. Think back to WW I, WW II, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, The Cold War. etc. |
