It's just a plant, what's the problem?

Look at the pictures. Does this look like a fun vacation at the lake? The problem with milfoil (like other invasive plants) is that it keeps on spreading. We may stop trying to remove it, but the plant doesn't stop growing. It gets thicker and thicker, and spreads over more and more of the shallow waters of a lake or stream. It drives out native water plants. And the longer it has to get a foothold, the harder it is to get rid of.

Things you can do "at the lake": boating, swimming, fishing, water skiing, canoeing/kayaking, golf . . .

Things you CAN'T do if there's a dense growth of milfoil: boating, swimming, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, finding the golf ball you shanked into the lake . . .

In other words, if you're a golfer, you may not need to worry about milfoil; but for anyone else, there's not much reason to go to the lake if the milfoil takes over.

Property owners should know that studies in other communities have found that property values tend to drop by 10% - 20% or more where milfoil has taken hold. And that shifts more of the tax burden to non-waterfront properties. We are ALL affected!

Milfoil is not waiting for us to catch up. We have to defeat it before it's too late.
