SOME HOMES IN RAYMOND
NEED HELP

Because of the high price of heating oil, the Town Office has been getting more calls for heating assistance than normal. In the 2007-2008 budget only $2,000 was set-aside for General Assistance which in years past has been enough.

General Assistance funding is for emergency help to people who can’t heat their homes, and/or feed their families, etc. Usually the PROP (People’s Regional Opportunity Program) programs have been great assistance to Raymond in helping with needy people. However, this year they have run out of funds for heat assistance. Legislation is being sought to extend this program and others for general assistance, but that has not been passed.

In this light the Board of Selectmen have asked that a special ongoing chartable account be formed to accept tax-deductible donations to backup our General Assistance account. These funds will be disbursed under the General Assistance guidelines as the usual budgeted funds.

If you wish to help, please forward donations to Nancy Yates, Finance Director, Town of Raymond, 401 Webbs Mills Road, Raymond, Maine 04071.
