1996-2002 Boston Post Cane Recipient
1996-2002, Abbie Muzzy Bryant
18 Sept 1903-13 Aug 2002, Age 98
On August 17, 1996, Raymond town officials awarded Abbie Muzzy Bryant as the recipient of the Boston Post Cane. The Boston Post presented the Cane to the town in 1909. It is an ebony gold-headed cane, inscribed with "Presented by the Boston Post to the Oldest Citizen of Raymond, Maine." Officials presented her with the Cane at the Raymond Founders Day celebration. The Cane was kept on display, in Mrs. Bryant's name, at the Raymond Town Office. Along with the presentation of the Cane, Mrs. Bryant received a certificate for her longevity. Abbie was born on September 18, 1903 and lived all of her 93 years in the village area of Raymond. She lived at her home with her husband Donald. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant were married for more than 60 years. They once owned and operated the General Store on Main Street and according to friends and relatives the store was a great success, as it was the last stop before Bridgton, Maine. Mrs. Bryant had a daughter, Janet Cairns, and a granddaughter, Jennifer. Her hobbies were gardening, walking, fishing, hunting and cooking.
