1967-1973, Katherine Yancey Merrill

Katherine was born in South Boston, Virginia & was the daughter of Edward B. & Sue (Jeffries) Yancey. She was a graduate of Scottsburg Normal College in Scottsburg, Virginia & of Columbian College (now George Washington University) in Washington, D.C. Katherine Yancey married Dr. George P. Merrill. She was employed as a teacher in District of Columbia schools for 40 years. Starting in the 1930s, Katherine was camp mother & hostess of the Luther Gulick Camps during the summer months. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Huguenot Society; and the Arts Club of Washington, D.C. Katherine settled in South Casco in 1964 after her retirement. She was involved in the Raymond community and was a member of the Hawthorne Garden Club; the Hawthorne Community Association and the Raymond Semicircle. Katherine died in Portland & is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Auburn.
1966-1967, Albertena Jordan
16 May 1874-24 Nov 1967, Age 93
Albertena was born in Raymond & was the daughter of Osmyn & Minerva (Staples) Jordan. She graduated from Pennell Institute in Gray. In 1906, Albertena resided in Raymond. Albertena died in Windham & is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Raymond. Albertena’s brother, Ephraim B. Jordan & her father, Osmyn Jordan were earlier presented with the same Boston Post Cane. The Jordans & the Knights are the only families in Raymond to have two generations awarded the cane.
1965-1966, Sadie J. McCorrison
8 Jan 1874-20 Feb 1966, Age 92.
Sadie J. Stuart (Morrill) of Portland married James W. McCorrison of Portland, 10 March 1909, Maine. Sadie J. McCorrison died in Portland & is buried at Forest City Cemetery.
1959-1965, Mabel F. Knight
11 July 1870-1965, Age 95
Mabel was the daughter of Henry Harmon. In 1880 & 1906, she resided in Raymond. She married Mr. Knight & resided in Massachusetts. Mabel is buried at Raymond Village Cemetery. Her son, Ernest H. Knight, was later presented with the same Boston Post Cane. The Knights & the Jordans are the only families in Raymond to have two generations awarded the cane.
1956-1959, Arthur Eugene Walton
7 May 1866-12 May 1959, Age 93
Arthur was born in Mercer, Somerset Co., Maine & was the son of Simon and Eliza (Liza) (Sawtelle) Walton. In 1880, Arthur E. Walton lived with his family in the adjacent town of Smithfield. He married Effie Chase. Arthur worked as the boss beater room engineer at the Livermore Falls International Paper Co. They moved to Raymond in 1935. Arthur was a member of the Masonic Order; the IOOF of Livermore Falls; and the Methodist Church. Arthur died in Raymond & is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Raymond.
1951?-1956, Mary Ann Strout
23 March 1865-23 June 1956, Age 91
Mary Ann was born in Raymond & was the daughter of Stephen and Deborah (Strout) Bartlett. Mary Ann Bartlett married Warren C. Strout, About 1885. In 1906, they resided in East Raymond. Mary Ann died in Raymond & is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Raymond.
