The Board of Directors has legislative power over all educational matters of the School District and its resolutions have the effect of law in the operation of the School District property. In accordance with its established philosophy of education, its basic responsibilities are:

  1. Selects, employs and evaluates the Superintendent.

  2. Legislative Policy Making: The School Board is responsible for the development of policy as guides administrative action and for employing a Superintendent to implement its policies.

  3. Appraisal: The Board of Directors is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of its policies and their implementation.

  4. Provision of Financial Resources: The Board of Directors is responsible for adoption of a budget that will provide the resources in terms of buildings, staff, materials and equipment that will enable the school system to carry out the Board’s policies.

  5. Public Relations: The Board of Directors is responsible for providing adequate and direct means for keeping the local citizenry informed about the schools and for keeping itself and the school staff informed about the needs and wishes of the public.

  6. Educational Planning and Evaluation: The Board is responsible for establishing the educational goals that will guide both the Board and the staff in working together toward the continuing improvement of the educational program. It is responsible for providing for the on-going evaluation of the school program against the goals and objectives set forth by the Board of Directors and by the State Board of Education. The Board is responsible for adopting courses of study.

  7. Approves/disapproves personnel nominations from the Superintendent and determines (where appropriate via collective bargaining) compensation and working conditions of all staff.
