By law, Maine birth records less than 75 years old, marriage records less than 50 years old, death records less than 25 years old and fetal deaths less than 50 years old are considered to be private. In order to inspect these documents, or to obtain copies, an individual must prove that they are permitted by law to do so.

If you are looking for a death record that is more than 25 years old, please email the decedent's name, date of death (or approximate year of death) to melanie.fernald@raymondmaine.org.

You will need to prove lineage to be eligible to purchase a private death certificate.  For example, you would need to show your birth certificate to get a copy of your mother's death certificate.

To request a copy(s) of a private Death Certificate fill out a Request Form, the following information is needed:

  1. Name of the decedent.
  2. Date of death.
  3. State your relationship to the name on the death record being requested.

  5. Please include a daytime telephone number.
  6. Please make the check payable to: "Town of Raymond".
  7. Who has access?
  8. Picture I.D. requirement(s).

The fee for one certified copy is $15.00. The fee for additional certified copies of the same record is $6.00 each. Send self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.
